Cyclic corrosion testing: how well is your product resistant to corrosion?

Cyclic corrosion tests are the best simulation of corrosion in practice. After extensive research, several test methods have been developed that predict the expected life of products better than the ordinary salt spray test.

Quality standards that we often perform are: ISO 12944 regime 2, SAE J2334 VW PV 1210, ASTM G85 Annex 5, GM 9540P, GMW 14872, ASTM B 117 and ASTM D1735.

How do cyclic corrosion tests work?

Based on the chosen standard, your product is exposed alternately, for a pre-agreed number of cycles, to salt, moisture and heat, and in some cases UV light and freezing.

At pre-agreed times, the coating is assessed for degradation according to ISO 4628 or a similar method.

Reporting and advice

Within five working days of completing the cyclic corrosion test, you will receive a report with the results. After reading the report, you may still need advice on how to improve the quality of the product.
