Coulometric layer thickness measurement: want to know the thickness of a galvanic coating?

With our standardized coulometric layer thickness measurement (or couloscopy), we measure to the nearest 0.1 µm the thickness of a galvanic coating. We do this by reversing the electroplating process under controlled conditions. We see how long it takes the layer to completely dissolve.

How does the Coulometric layer thickness measurement work?

To measure the thickness of the galvanic layer, we use a couloscope. A special liquid causes controlled electric current to dissolve the coating. This reversal of the electroplating process is called de-plating. There is a fixed relationship between the duration of de-plating and the layer thickness. Thus, based on the duration, we can calculate the layer thickness.

Reporting and advice

Within five working days of completing the coulometric layer thickness measurement, you will receive a report with the results. After reading the report, you may still need advice on how to improve the quality of the product.
